For my landform portrait of the upper Rhine River, I worked with the old photographic process of cyanotypie. Because it relies on sunlight, and because I live in a floodplain where the weather changes often, I found myself constantly monitoring the sky. It became more than a background - in a time when so much of what we observe is filtered through screens and media, the act of noticing, the recognition of this ever-changing composition above us, enlivened my awareness in an unexpected way. Each painting is made on a block of wood 4” (10cm) square and can hang on the wall or stand on its own.
